Saturday - arrival
Arrive late afternoon. We suggest a leisurely 45 minute stroll to the creperie at St Justin where you can enjoy a traditional French snack in the sunshine. The restaurant is on an isolated promontory looking out onto the lovely Bastan valley, the village of Barèges and the towering mountains on every side - it can only be accessed on foot and has wonderful views.

Taking advantage of our local knowledge, we leave the main path behind to skirt high above the cirque on the "balcony" path - an airy trail with phenomenal views into the valley below.
The more adventurous amongst you have the chance to scramble up to the foot of the "grande cascade" - the highest free hanging waterfall in Europe, with a 400m drop down into the cirque. Then we head down through tranquil Alpine meadows, making sure we have time for dipping our feet in a cool mountain stream for a perfect end to the day.

There are a range of options for your free day. You could visit Barèges’ thermal spa, the highest in France. Or perhaps take a trip to the Pic du Midi observatory.
It’s also possible to take the bus to Luz St-Sauveur or the pretty spa town of Argelès-Gazost. Here you can stock up on the delicious local sheep’ cheeses and ‘saucissons sec’ (knobbly French salamis).
The pilgrimage town of Lourdes is also accessible by public transport (about 1hr by bus).
For those who can’t sit still, there are plenty of trails to be explored on foot from Barèges, and we can arrange additional activities such as horse trekking, or even just more of your favourite activity so far. Our multi-activity glossary provides a list of what is available in the area.

We start the day with an awe-inspiring 20m abseil into an echoing cavern. Looking up to the overhanging trees, the surface seems such a long way away!
We make our way down three more exciting abseils into the lower sections of the cave, where over 100m underground you'll enjoy your most bizarre picnic ever. Then discover a 3-dimensional assault course of slithering, clambering, wriggling, sliding and climbing all the way back to the open air.

Rafting is the classic way to descend a mountain river and is great fun for groups. The Gave de Pau river runs very fast in spring and early summer, dropping to a good fun grade 2-3 later in the season.
Your instructor comes along for the ride, pointing out the best route and making sure everyone gets a good dunking - hang on tight or you'll soon be overboard!
With monkey bridges, log-balances, tarzan swings, cargo-nets and huge long zip-lines, Chlorofil really is a challenging treetop adventure.
Saturday – time to leave
After an action packed week, we leave for the airport in the morning, ready to head home.
An important note about multi-activity holidays
This is an example itinerary for an "Adventure" multi-activity holiday in the Pyrenees.
Our programme is completely flexible and we can offer tailored holidays with your own choice and number of activities.
Our price for the above multi-activity holiday is 750 - 975 euros per person (depending on your itinerary), with a 50 euro per person discount available for 3 or more sharing a family bedroom in the chalet or a standard room in Hotel du Tourmalet.
This includes all activities with qualified guides, equipment hire, local transport, food and accommodation. You must have your own insurance to cover these activities. The price may vary if you select your own activities. Please consult our glossary of activities for more ideas.
Some activities are weather dependent and may be changed at short notice. We will always offer you an alternative activity, such as more guided walking (e.g the beautiful Neouvielle lakes tour with an optional swim in a chilly mountain lake), horse riding, mountain biking and attractions such as the showcaves at Betharam, the Pic du Midi observatory, the Pic de Jer funicular and the town of Lourdes.
Now choose your multi-activity dates from our calendar, then contact us to book.
